Primo appuntamento
“A woman under the influence” di John Cassavetes (1974)
“Ho scritto questa sceneggiatura per mia moglie, Gena Rowlands, splendida attrice, però non si tratta di una biografia.
La scrittura del soggetto è nata in solitudine, anche qualcosa di più della solitudine: in uno stato d’innamoramento. Man mano che procedevo nell’elaborazione e poi durante le riprese, ho preso coscienza di problemi che mi erano sconosciuti, per non dire estranei. Infine, quando ho visto il film terminato, sono rimasto scioccato dalla realtà.”
Un’esperienza sensibile quella che Cassavetes con straordinaria spontaneità regala non solo a sua moglie ma a tutte le donne - sotto l’influenza - di isterismi e stravaganze.
Un’immersione nell’alcova dei coniugi Longhetti, due contraddizioni in carne ed ossa che si abbandonano a livelli di incomunicabilità virali, accomunate però da una maschera quotidiana con cui scleroticamente cercano di costruirsi una condizione (in)naturale invero immutabile. Lui, Nick, minimizza, dissimula, l’inesprimibile pazzia con cui Mabel, esuberante tutta smorfie e gesti, risponde ad un mondo che non le corrisponde l’immagine desiderata.
Una “commedia umana” tra le mura di una casa dove la sola privacy possibile è un monito sulla porta del bagno.

Zero Roma scrive: Letteralmente, “back to the future”. Pure se con un nome così i De Lorians non ammettono un’ispirazione diretta alla saga di Marty McFly e co., quella dei cinque giappi ha molto della macchina del tempo che scorrazza tra un passato maestoso e un futuro apocalittico. Del resto rumore e jazz sono due delle specialità assolute delle formazioni nipponiche, coadiuvate da un’attrazione per l’improvvisazione e un’attitudine che ha sempre qualcosa di folle e alieno.
Come se Frank Zappa e le sue Mothers of Invention si perdessero tra le lande prog-folk di Canterbury e lì trovassero una macchina astrusa che li catapulta in un futuro accelerato. Come se il sax e il sintetizzatore dei De Lorians altro non fossero che strumenti per generare una “musica patafisica” divertente ma pure cervellotica. Esordio omonimo al fulmicotone e copertina che non ne vuole sapere del Pianeta Terra.

MYRA JARA TOLEDO
Myra was born in Lima in 1987 and lives in Rome. He studied literature in Peru, Germany and Italy and has practiced “Contemporary Dance” in Lima and New York. She published the poetic collection "La destrucción es blanca" (Lima, 2015). His poems have been published in various poetry magazines in Mexico, Argentina, Italy, Finland, Denmark.
Myra will read us some poems that will make you feel the blood flowing over your skin.

JAMES HOLLENBAUGH
The first part of this program consists of a series created with Tennessee-based performance artist Bryan Lewis Saunders and sound artist Z’EV. Combining both original and found footage these short films have also played in gallery installations and as visual accompaniments to live performance by both Saunders and Z’EV. In the past 5 years Hollenbaugh has been concentrating on Super 8mm non-traditional documentary portraits focusing his attention on American outsider artists whom he considers extraordinary. These films have received much acclaim, playing internationally at film festivals, museums, universities, and galleries, as well as being featured on German television. Three of these portraits will conclude this program centering on the lives of Bryan Lewis Saunders, Susan Lowe, and William Mayer.

The grainy, black-and-white video, shot entirely with mobile phone, explores the psychological effect of unhealthy preoccupation with and fear of being forgotten.

Named after one of a series of advertising posters created and displayed by a local grocery store, “TV Cheese” was inspired by the cut-up technique of A Big 10-8 Place, Flee Past’s Ape Elf, and “Bomb Plus Bomb Tape.” The original 1980s tapes containing initial unedited pieces were lost and it remained unrealized until it was revisited for inclusion on The Thirteenth Century German Poet (And Who Can Forget Him) (BUFMS 2016). The nine-minute collage juxtaposes recognizable and obscure samples from numerous pop culture sources (rock music, movies, television, radio, children’s records, thrift store cassettes) with fragments from the group’s own radio shows, plays, movies, and recording sessions.

Mama Baer breaks out from her situation, by part under Hjuler’s direction. A remarkable situation here is Mama Baer inside a hall for planes, camera running onto her, she is screaming as weird as one can do, and a break in her life.
